Guide To Prevent Being Ddosed

Understanding the Issue

Alright to start things off, if you don't know what ddosing is you need to learn. ddos=distributed denial of service, *lamens terms* makes lag real big....and internet go boom... well whatever. When someone ddoses you, they are sending a large ammount of packets through your internet, which in turn will flood you. you sent and recived packets can be seen by going to control panel, network connections, then clicking on the internet connection on which you are connected to. Your recieved packets and sent packets should be about the same. Ddosing makes your recieved packets alot higher than your sent, which could end your connection, or possibly slow it down terribly.

The Solution

So, people just think awh man...i'm screwed now that they have my ip. You're not, and here's why. With certain anti-viruses you are given a firewall that doesn't allow foreign objects to enter your computer AKA foreign packets. Some of them are known as Bitdefender, Kasperky(newest version), and Comodo Firewall. Comodo is the only free one that's not a pain in the ass to get, so that's the one i'm going to show you how to get and install.

First go to "http://freepcsecurity.co.uk/2009/06/21/comodo-free-firewall". Download the file, this shouldn't take that long depending on your processing speed and ram.

Then disable your internet connection and disable your firewall, this is needed to correctly install the firewall. REMEMBER, ONLY install the the firewall, the antivirus could interfere with your current antivirus.

Next run the installer, run as administrator if on vista. the screen should look like this. Select your language and continue.

Click the next button with the arrow and continue onto the license agreement and accept.

After you accept you will be taken to a screen where it will configure your settings and extract all the files needed for the installation.

Next you will be asked to give them your email address, this is optional, but it could email you about updates and junk of that matter. I just skipped.

Next is the part that's most important. you will be given the following screen:
If you already have an antivirus, only check the boxes that say install the firewall and get live support.

Next it will ask you about which kind of firewall you want. Obviously you would want the best one, but for you dumbasses, It's the one at the bottom.

The rest of it is self-explanitory. This program also has alot of great features like: It tells you how far your cpu is being distributed, as in how much cpu is being used on each program. You can disable anyone from accessing the internet (if it's wireless) from any other ip adress other than your own.

Finally, when someone ddoses you, if will tell you (whether they decide to port scan or not) port scan blocked from ip address: *Their ip adress or proxy* Then if they're ddosing straight off, it will say incoming foreign packets from ip address* their ip address* and it will give you 3 options. You can allow, block, or reverse. NEVER ALLOW! Now you have two options, the block or reverse, if you get someone who's ddosing you that knows what they're doing, the reverse option is a bad idea. Also if your computer isn't strong enough to send packets, then don't do it, or you could time out your connection. (all you have to do is repair your connection. right click your connection then repair) I myself just always block them. Well I hope you guys have enjoyed this guide HAVE FUN.
